How to receive push notifications from Shopify with PingBell

A 10-minute walkthrough for connecting your Shopify store to PingBell so every paid order rings a bell on every team phone.

Yoav Shalev · · Updated January 9, 2024

The fastest way to know when your Shopify store takes an order is to stop refreshing the dashboard and let PingBell tell you. Every order you make rings a bell on every team phone, ticks a counter on the office TV, and adds a point to a real-time graph — all from a single Shopify webhook.

There are now two ways to connect Shopify to PingBell: the official PingBell Shopify App (one-click install, recommended for most stores) or a direct webhook (covered below for stores that prefer manual control).

Requirements: a PingBell account and a Shopify store.

Step 1: Create a PingBell account

Visit my.pingbell.io and sign up — passwordless email-link login, and every plan starts with a Free to start — no credit card.

Step 2: Create a source

A source is where your events come from. Open the Sources page, type a name in the Custom webhook panel (“Shopify Sales”, “New Orders”, or whatever you’ll recognize), and click Create webhook. Your new source’s webhook URL appears with a Copy button — keep it handy for Step 8.

Step 3: Configure the celebration

Click the pencil on your new source, set a celebration message (“New sale!”, “Cha-ching!”), and pick a sound from PingBell’s library of 70+ built-in options.

Step 4: Invite your team (optional)

To loop in teammates, open Workspace & Teams and invite them by email. They’ll get a notification on their own phones every time the bell rings — no per-viewer charges.

Step 5: Open your Shopify Dashboard

Sign in to Shopify Admin.

Step 6: Find Notification settings

In the bottom-left of the Shopify Admin sidebar, click Settings and find the Notifications section.

Step 7: Find webhook settings

Scroll to the bottom of the Notifications page. You’ll see a Webhooks section. Click Create webhook.

Step 8: Copy your webhook URL

Switch back to PingBell’s Sources page and click the 🔗 copy icon on your source.

Step 9: Fill in the webhook form

In Shopify, name the webhook, select the event you want to be notified about (most stores choose Order creation or Order paid), paste your PingBell webhook URL into the URL field, and click Save.

Step 10: You’re done

Every time the chosen event fires on Shopify, the bell rings — on every team phone, every browser tab, and every screen casting the board. Test it with a $0 product or a webhook ping to confirm.

Want it even simpler?

If 10 steps is 9 too many, install the official PingBell Shopify App instead. One-click auth, automatic webhook setup, no manual URL pasting.
